Bobbi and Family Our deepest condolences on your loss. After a horrible year and a half of suffering Marty can now rest in peace. A dear friend of over 60 plus years is lost, but nothing but good memories remain. I smile when I look back at the squash games at Hart House, the Investment Club trips and dinners, all the golf games with Les Cappe. The fondest memory is the golf weekends at the cottage where we sit on the deck and with Marty smoking a cigar and having a glass of scotch and all of us discussing the current state of world. We have lost one of the Good Guys, A real Mensch. May his memory be a blessing. Fred and Raisyl

Marty and I shared a very special bond. We were fishing buddies for almost 50 years from the late seventies to 2017, and every year and we always went somewhere exotic. The high Arctic, the south pacific, or the Caribbean. We shared some of the most exciting, the most gratifying, and the most exhilarating moments of our lives together. I am truly blessed to have had such a kind and generous soul in my life and I will never forget him. May his memory be as a blessing. Shim Goldfarb

Growing up as neighbours on Strathallan Wood was truly special. I spent countless hours at your house, where I always felt welcome. I have such fond memories of Marty, especially of him leading the Slater Seder. Marty was kind and deeply inclusive, always treating me—even as a kid—as someone worth knowing. I still make mushrooms in balsamic vinegar because I once had them at your place for dinner with my parents, prepared just the way Marty made them. They’ve been a favourite ever since. I also remember his wonderful sense of humour and the unforgettable way he invited people to his 40th birthday—every guest woke up to a pink flamingo on their lawn. I’m so grateful I was able to have one last visit with him in August. Sending love and hugs.

Dear Bobbi and family, When I was about 13 years old, Marty removed my braces and installed a permanent bar behind my lower teeth. He said “I’ll remove the bar when you’re 16, or married…whichever comes first”. At my wedding 24 years ago, Marty said he was waiting for me to “fling” the bar at him as I walked down the aisle. Today, almost 40 years later, Marty’s wire (and my straight teeth) is still intact and I laugh whenever I feel it. It’s no wonder Marty was in the business of smiles. No one made them, brought them, or has left them behind quite like him. May his memory be for a blessing.
