All my condolences to the Caplan family!!! I was out of town last weekend from Thur. through weekend and into this week for my Aunts funeral in Lapeer Michigan, and did not know about his death. I am so sorry that he is gone, and I have many very good memories working on his executive with him throughout his time in office, and parties in his back lawn. I had sat with him just recently at one of David Collenette''s meetings. It was one of the best periods of my life working with him. I am so sorry for all the family, and wish you all the best for the rest of everyone''s life!! All the best!!! Doug Gillings!!

My sincere condolences to David''s family. I was shocked when I heard of his passing. Like David, his family has always been strong and supportive, and they will need that now. I met David in the early 1970s in a small urban oasis called the Bayview Mews in North York where we both went to Elkorn Elementary School. I have been flooded with happy memories of him, those places and times - although it makes me sad now thinking about them. My family worked on both his father Wilf''s and mother Elinor''s political campaigns with his brothers and sister Mark, Zane and Meredith. He became interested in politics then, and I followed his political career - although from afar from in Western Canada. I was glad to hear that he followed his mom''s path of public service all the way to becoming Minister of Health and entering Federal politics. Although, I did not see him often because I moved thousands of miles from Toronto, my family and I did enjoy the times when we had the opportunity to meet with David, Leigh and their sons. My daughter, Victoria, also enjoyed her times with them at their Muskoka cottage - especially playing with Benjamin and Jacob. I wish David''s family well during this tragedy. Their father, son, husband and sibling will be greatly missed.

Dear Leigh, Benjamin, Jacob, Caplan family and friends, When we think of David, it’s important to remember how he lived – with integrity, dignity and good humour. During the years we spent together as trustees at the North York Board of Education, we had confidence that if David chaired a committee and brought a report to the board room, that due process had been followed, stakeholders had been consulted and the recommendations were well thought out. David had an amazing gift - the ability to make connections with everyone and as a result had many friends from different walks of life. He will be missed. May his memory be a blessing. I am shocked and saddened that we have lost David at such a young age. I had the privilege to canvass with him last Fall in his election bid. He was the most engaging, personable and energetic politician I had ever knocked on doors with. Plus he offered lots of policy ideas. While I only knew him for a short period I learned from him and he inspired me. My deepest condolences to all of David’s family.

Dear Caplan Family. I am so sorry to hear this news. When I was Vice-Principal at Georges Vanier S.S, David was the school trustee and later MPP for our area. My condolences to the family. I worked with David at Ernie Goodman’s office in the late 1980’s. I was at David’s wedding. He was a very kind and gentle soul. I’m am very sad to hear this news.
